Matt Grimes, Captain of Coventry City.

He always had it in him. Even someone as critical of him as I was regularly acknowledged that. I just got tired of waiting either for him to work it out for himself or a manager to force him to. No regrets over his departure.

S25/26 | The MATCHDAY Thread | West Bromwich Albion vs Swansea City | 3pm | The EFL Championship l The Hawthorns

We've started like we started on Tuesday, but have the goals to show for it. Let's hope we don't finish like Tuesday.
  3. Dr. Winston

Matt Grimes, Captain of Coventry City.

He played his best football when forced out of his comfort zone hiding between the centre backs. Only Potter and to a lesser extent Duff ever did in the nigh on decade he was here. If Lampard is getting a consistent tune out of him then that's more to his credit than Grimes's.

    S25/26 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea 1 Derby 2 | Att: 14,251 | 25/11/25 | The EFL Championship | The Swansea.com Stadium

Much of what we did that was good in the first half involved him. He moved the ball quickly and rarely took more touches than needed. I defend him quite a bit and I'm not claiming that he's the answer, but 300 games in the top two divisions is no fluke. He's a much better player than most give...

    S25/26 | The Official Match Thread | Swansea 1 Derby 2 | Att: 14,251 | 25/11/25 | The EFL Championship | The Swansea.com Stadium

A fairly encouraging first 30-35 minutes where we played the game at a decent pace and probably deserved to be level at HT. Went to bits after the break, even more so after the subs. Stamenic offers us nothing that Fulton didn't already and based on tonight is worse at it. Benson was even...

    Harlan Perry

It is a panicky post when the insinuation is that the club wouldn't have known about his contract situation unless someone on Twitter had pointed it out.

Football clubs often don't have the first idea about the contractual status of players they've spent years developing until people who had previously never heard of them point it out thanks to panicky social media posts.

Vitor Matos Named Swansea City Boss as New Era Begins at the Swansea.com Stadium

The overall intent is generally very good. Stuff like the Coventry bus deal and getting Leon and Allen involved, albeit temporarily and probably more for PR purposes than anything else does suggest that they understand the importance of having the support onside. Execution however has been lacking.

O'Dea - Reason For Our Downfall?

Things have gone to shit this season, and I don't think people are too wide of the mark in ascribing a fair proportion of the blame for that to O'Dea and the influence he clearly had considering his team selection and game managment was horrendous, but it's quite bizarre to see people still...

    The ‘Vítor Matos’ Managerial Thread

The length of the deal doesn't matter as much as the value of it. For example, a four year deal for £150k a year costs the same overall as a three year deal on £200k. Could well have been structured that way for tax purposes.

Is Vitor Matos the Right Fit for Swansea City? The Case for Patience

Tony Mowbray is a proven manager at this level and was sacked three months into his last job. *Every* managerial appointment is taking a chance.

Is Vitor Matos the Right Fit for Swansea City? The Case for Patience

The success rate for managers with experience vs managers with no experience seems to be largely the same. If Matos is going to be a success then the likelihood is that he will be one no matter how many games he's currently been in charge of. All the best coaches have to start somewhere, and...

    Martin. Yes or No?

And he went to Southampton and Rangers and did all the stupid shit again. I think that's why, despite serious competition, he's a contender for worst Swansea manager of my lifetime. All along he knew how to get the team playing better. He just refused to out of sheer arrogance and a need to...

    Martin. Yes or No?

People keep banging on about that run in like it was somehow a vindication of Martin's processes instead of the final damning proof that they didn't work. We changed from what he was trying to do and played a way that people had been begging for for months and we immediately looked like a...

    Martin. Yes or No?

He is an embarassingly poor manager. Was poor for us, was poor for Southampton, was poor for Rangers. Anyone even remotely contemplating he possibility that bringing him back might be a good idea needs sectioning.

    Kim Hellberg

You'd think. Yalcouye's natural position may conflict with Widell's though. Do we push MW forward in the meantime? Lots of variables.

    Kim Hellberg

I would say that all bets are off as far as our midfield is concerned IF Hellberg is as "all action" as some people believe. Hard to say who will get a look in.

It clearly started slipping before that. The decision to replace Laudrup with Monk on a permanent basis, even after GM led us on a run of something like two wins in thirteen games was an indication of problems at the top. It accelerated after the takeover no doubt. Jenkins was left with the...

I'm falling out of love with football....

In defence of our wingers, the comments earlier in the thread about the style of play and the "420 passes" stuff is a big part of their problem IMO. Cast your minds back to when we had Dyer and Routledge on the wing. I'd wager that both of them got the ball on average 10-15 yards further up the...

I'm falling out of love with football....

When I was a kid I went to every home game I could. Even Welsh cup matches in front of about 250 people. I think I missed one home league game (and almost no cup ones) in a spell of about 15-20 years up until Covid. This season I only bothered with Man City in the cup, have already missed one in...
