Firstly I’m delighted with the win yesterday it was badly needed and hopefully we can follow it up with another one on Tuesday.

At the moment I can’t help but draw comparisons to the way we’re trying to play and the England cricket side.

Even at two nil yesterday we didn’t look comfortable or in control of the game, like England we don’t seem to have any tactic other than to charge around closing down the opposition without any game plan, when it comes off you can get a result, when it doesn’t it’s a disaster.

Genuinely hope that this isn’t the road we are going down and that we’ll take a far more cultured approach to our football in the future otherwise we might be on the end of a few five nil drubbings ourselves.

Tymon and Stamenic both have come out and praised Matos methods and personality, Tymon even saying in a few weeks when he has had longer with the team we will look different.

Our use of subs yesterday were some of the most effective that I can remember in recent times. If that’s not a game plan then I don’t know what is.

I would put any lack of control at the moment down to confidence, we have had very little of it recently. Matos has said we want to control games and I think we’ll see that in time. We’re also not holding on to the ball for the sake of it which means we’re probably going to give it away a bit more.

I have already seen triangles forming in attack since Matos has come in and the player seem to have more conviction going forward and in the press. We’ll have to give it time and hopefully when the back room staff comes in we’ll see the full plan.

F*cking hell, one of the many (valid) criticisms of our team over recent months has been a lack of effort and application, yesterday we ran our bollocks off for 90 mins and thoroughly deserved to win, yet some people are complaining pressing like that is unsustainable.

I smell a cakeism-flavoured agenda here.

That’s a bit of an exaggeration with all due respect. They were chucking everything at us but in response, instead of sitting back and hoping for the best under Williams and Sheehan we aggressively went after a third goal and in honesty should have scored 4 goals.
