Kim Hellberg - New Manager?

We’ve had a chance to bring this bloke in and decided he wasn’t up to it. Not impressed.

Who has said he wasn’t up to it? The only reason we didn’t bring him in the Summer is because we already had a successful coach in charge so why change it?

If we had the top scorer in the league last season would we sell him and bring in the top scorer in Sweden? Absolutely not.
Sheehan was on paper the top performing coach last year. We would have been mad to take the risk and change that

It just feels to me like another potential appointment made off the back of fancy stats and heatmaps, like with Martin and Williams. We're taking a risk on a coach whose numbers may stand up to a certain extent but, crucially, at an inferior standard to the division we're in.

Look at Tim Walter and Johannes Thorup from last season - parachuted in from nowhere, struggled, got sacked. Going back a bit further you had Duff with us. Bulut at Cardiff came with the sort of narrative now surrounding Hellberg, but we know how that ended.

Sorry to put a downer on things but to me, it just feels like an enormous and unnecessary risk of making the same mistakes we've made previously.

Genuinely interested in who you think we should go for? I'm not entirely sold on Hellberg, but I can see the appeal

Exactly this I don’t know why people don’t understand this.

Changing the manager is always a gamble. Changing the way we play and asking the players to adapt can take a while but at least there's a window coming up to tweak the squad.
Fans will be excited/underwhelmed and everywhere between but the proof of the pudding...
Remember Brendan being appointed? A huge collective meh from the fanbase greeted that one.

It’s interesting with Hellberg, no experience with English Football but that doesn’t always matter.

Regis Le Bris was successful with Sunderland despite not having any experience with English Football. Did well with Lorient in his first season but got relegated the season before he came to the championship.

Wagner and Farke both had success despite lack of experience. Both were actually coaches of Dortmund’s second team, maybe that’s where we should be looking!

Will Still, despite being English never had a job in football in the UK. Didn’t go well at Southampton.

Basically it’s all a gamble.

I think every potential candidate is a huge risk

Someone like Wagner would have been a bigger risk than Hellberg. He did well at Huddersfield for 18 months and was sacked. Also failed in his other roles in Germany & Switzerland.

From an outsider point of view - he looked like he did well at Norwich but if you dive into it - Norwich fans thought he was useless and should have performed better with the players they had.

He is someone who to me looks like he is on a downward spiral in his career.

Mentality & confidence is just as important in a Manager as it is in a player. Someone like Hellberg is on the rise - he will have a confident mentality and determination that someone like Wagner, Corberon, Mowbray etc won’t have and the hope is his fresh and forward thinking ideas will push us on

Someone on Facebook last night said we should be getting Ian Holloway in because he knows the championship 😂

That's the thing - you look at the bookies list, and there's not much there I like. Brendan coming back would be brilliant but that will not happen.
Pretty much exactly how I feel, and why I don't mind us going for Hellberg.

The only name that seems to keep coming up is Carrick, but he failed to reach the play-offs two seasons running with a squad much stronger than ours, spending a lot more money. I try to keep up to date with the views of other fans across the season (admittedly, solely through r/championship and NTT20 podcast), and he was pretty much hated by the time he left.

That's why I keep saying Wagner should be the choice. Proven at every club and successful both time in the Championship
