Sigurdsson beat off stiff competition from David Silva at Manchester City to take his place as one of two attacking midfielder’s in the team – lining up alongside Dusan Tadic.
Gylfi was one of four Swansea players who were shortlisted to take their place in the team. Lucasz Fabianski came third in the goalkeeper poll behind David De Gea and Joe Hart whilst Ashley Williams was second to John Terry in one of the central defender polls. Ki Sung Yeung came third in his midfield poll falling behind Yaya Toure and Cesc Fabregas.
Sigurdsson took 39% of the poll in which he was selected to take his place in the team after an excellent season on his return to the Liberty after two years at Tottenham. He made 32 appearances for the side, scoring 7 league goals on top of his assists and was immediately returned to a fans favourite.
He also scored two goals that were shortlisted in the final six in our goal of the season competition whilst he was also a close runner in the player of the year awards.
It is that kind of form that shows why he was nominated and voted into the team of the year and it is a well deserved accolade.
