Chances All Round In Feeney Deal

Roberto Martinez has urged loan signing Warren Feeney to take his chance at Swansea City after an uncertain few years in his career.

The Northern Ireland international made the switch down the M4 on Friday evening on a four month loan from Cardiff City in a move criticised in some quarters as a "panic buy" amongst comments from fans of both Cardiff and Luton that the Swans have picked themselves a dud

Roberto though is reported to be a long term fan of Feeney and tried to get him back at the start of the year only to miss out to Cardiff and Dave Jones. "It is a great opportunity for him, he is determined to make it work and I’m sure he is up for the challenge," Martinez told BBC Wales sport.

"Our fans have always been fair and honest

"If he works hard and shows that to the supporters I’m sure they will treat him with warmth.

"I don’t think where you come from is important if you are performing on the pitch.

"Warren is an international and he will give us the competition we need up front after losing Lee Trundle."

And former Swans and Cardiff star Andy Legg also asked supporters to be fair with Feeney and judge him on who he is rather than where he came from

“Warren has not long been associated with Cardiff and is not part of the furniture." he told Wales on Sunday

“I was in a no-win situation as I was a Welshman who had been associated with one club for many years. The Swansea fans hated me for going to Cardiff and the Cardiff fans didn’t like the fact I had played for Swansea.”
