Knight Ready To Start |
The Swans new keeper David Knight is in line for his debut tonight as Roberto prepares to rest Dorus De Vries for the game against Millwall in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. De Vries has been an ever present this season due to Willy upping and leaving on the season’s eve but with the deadline day capture of Knight from Middlesbrough, Martinez is keen to give a chance to impress to his new goalkeeper. Knight was a member of the Boro FA Youth winning cup side of 2004 so has a pedigree he can be proud of and he is ready to show a sparce Swansea crowd what he can offer. “Boro have some good youngsters who I played with in the youth team and they’ve all been lucky enough to come through the system and get into the side,” Knight told the Western Mail “But the position of goalkeeper is competitive and it was clear I had to move on for the sake of my career. “Mark Schwarzer, Brad Jones and Ross Turnbull, who is on loan at Cardiff, were all ahead of me in the pecking order and it was clear I needed to move on to gain regular first-team football. “Swansea are certainly an ambitious club, so hopefully before long I can get back up to the top once again with them. “I’ve come to Swansea to challenge for a first-team place and hopefully play some matches “I don’t want to be just stuck on the bench every week but I do realise I have a lot of hard work ahead of me as Dorus looks a very good goalkeeper. “If my chance comes, I have to grasp the opportunity.” The Western Mail predicts the Swans to line up this evening as follows Knight Amankwaah Monk O’Leary Austin Anderson Craney Allen Butler Duffy Bussy What are your thoughts?
