Roberto Apologises For Postponement |
Swansea manager Roberto Martinez has apologised to the club’s fans for the late postponement of the match against Cheltenham on Friday. The match was called off Monday morning to much criticism from the supporters, many of whom had booked time off work or made hotel or travel arrangements – much of which cannot be changed. The Swans invoked a ruling which allows you to call off league fixtures if you have three people on international duty and with Shaun MacDonald, Joe Allen and Warren Feeney all away then Roberto felt it was in his best interests to use that ruling. Speaking to the Evening Post he said "I can only apologise if some of our supporters are disappointed, but this decision was not taken lightly "We put a lot of thought into it and if the fans sit and think about it for a few minutes they will be happy with the decision because playing the game would be negative for our club. "I don’t really like to call off games, but we had to do it for the benefit of Swansea City. "There are five or six reasons behind it. It’s best not to go into them because that would be disrespectful to the other team. Some the people will be able to read for themselves, others they won’t." The new date for the fixture is Tuesday September 18 and tickets and official coach travel is valid for the new date. Alternatively, they can collect a full refund from the Liberty Stadium ticket office any time before 6pm on September 17. Official travel club bookings will also stand for the new date, but refunds are available in the club shop up until September 14 or directly from Ugo Vallario on matchdays. What are your thoughts?
