Butler Vows To Fight On |

With Andy Robinson, Leon Britton and Paul Anderson ahead of him in the starting line up and seemingly others coming through before him, it would have been easy to predict that the end was nigh for Butler. But as he fought back with a man of the match display against Millwall and now is ready to fight for his first team place after assurances from his manager. Butler created the opening two goals with perfect passes in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy win and was a constant thorn in the Londoners defence as the Swans started out on the road to Wembley. “People talk, not the manager but maybe higher up the club, and there were rumours that I might be leaving,” Butler told the Evening Post”So I asked the manager. I said to him that if he didn’t want me he should come and tell me, because I’m not the type of player to sit around when I’m not needed.”I told him I wasn’t complaining – Andy Robinson and Leon Britton have been fantastic over the last couple of years, and there are four or five wingers here now going for two places.”But I’m in a difficult position. I’m 26, I need to be playing and I need to know how many games I could possibly play. “He said ‘I need you in the squad’. He said he believes in me and as a player all you want is that honesty. “I don’t feel I’ve had that much luck since I came here “As a winger you need a run of games, but under the last manager I might play three or four and then as soon as I had an average game I was dropped.”Other times I’ve been playing well and then picked up an injury.It’s hard because you need to be playing consistently to keep your performance level up. Any attacking player will tell you that.”I’ve had a lot of managers in my career, and he is probably the most human of them all”He is football-orientated, too, which is another thing that suits me.
