Painter Eyes Comeback |
Marcos Painter has been out of action since the 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest at the Liberty. An injury picked up in training meant that he missed the league games against Walsall and Doncaster as well as cup ties against Reading and Millwall. But he is back and ready for action this evening against Carlisle, assuming of course that Roberto selects him. “I’ve trained all week,” explained Painter on the official web site. “While it’s still a bit sore after the sessions, it’s a lot better. “The manager has asked me if I’ll be available for selection, and I’ve told him yes. I’m just desperate to get back out there playing again, especially with three games in the next eight days.” Roberto added: “The recent break we’ve had has given Marcos the license to return. He’s made himself available, but we’ll just have to wait and see how he comes through the final training session before making the final decision.” Whilst Kevin Austin has deputised well for Marcos during his time out it’s very easy to see that we have lacked going forward and whilst Painter was linking with Robbo in the early games we always looked a threat – a threat that has maybe subsided in the games that he has missed. It’s no co-incidence that sides with good attacking options on the flanks do better and if we can get Painter back into the side then that adds to our options on the left hand side, be it with Robbo, Butler or Anderson.
