Martinez was speaking frankly after the Swans 4-0 humbling at Reading yesterday – a result that sends them tumbling down the Championship table.
He said “The Cardiff game affected us psychologically because the players came out to the pitch too relaxed and were just hoping their football would be able to win the game.
“Concentration levels were not good enough and we got carried away with the hype from Tuesday.
“When you do that against a side like Reading, they will hurt you.
“We did not do the basics. Sometimes you need to put bodies on the line against a side that plays with the intensity of Reading, but we didn’t.
“The first 30 minutes or so surprised me. The performance was horrible and we got punished.”
