The Swansea City manager was in confident mood as he prepared his team to face Leicester at the Liberty this weekend – their first league game for almost three weeks.

And he was so confident that he told reporters that if his side ended in the play off positions this season they would win them

He told the Western Mail โ€œI would be happy if we carried on as we have done โ€“ and to stay in sixth. That would be a big achievement for everyone.

โ€œAnd, in my opinion, if we get to the play-offs we will go to the Premier League.

โ€œWhy? We are better than everyone.

โ€œWe donโ€™t need to buy anyone, we are strong enough. We are a good team, we are strong enough and play goodย footballย and have the resources to get promoted.

โ€œIf we keep doing what we have been doing and we get there, we have a big, big chance. This is something I believe.

โ€œWe are sixth, but we know how close it is,โ€ he said. โ€œWe want to stay competitive, but we know we can win every game and this is what we want to do.

โ€œWe have won more than we have lost, but I want to win more.

โ€œAnd we have the quality and the capacity and the right confidence to do that.

โ€œThe chairman knows what I want,โ€ Sousa said. โ€œIf we get it, fine; if we donโ€™t then it is also fine because I understand the clubโ€™s way and its philosophy. It is something I have accepted from the beginning.

โ€œI want to add something to my squad all the time and if itโ€™s possible of course I would be happy.

โ€œI want to be better all the time, some times small changes can help you to improve quicker.

โ€œI have my ideas and I pass those to the chairman and to the board. But the club knows the best way and what we can and cannot do.

โ€œWhatever is settled, we will keep doing our job as we have done with the right confidence and belief.

โ€œThe chairman and the players concerned know my consideration,โ€ said Sousa.

โ€œPlayers need to play, to feel happy and to develop skills.

โ€œAnd everyone is working hard to make the right decisions for those players.

โ€œI donโ€™t know if Stephen will still be here, but every player who is in the squad must be motivated to believe they can play.โ€
