Swansea City’s joint leading scorer was speaking on the eve of the Preston game with the Swans looking for a win that will move them within one point of fourth placed Cardiff.

The Swans have struck just 23 times in 27 league games this season and that statistic makes their 5th place league position even more remarkable.

Shefki Kuqi is excpected to make his first start for the club against Preston and Trundle hopes that all strikers can start hitting the target more in the run in to the end of the season.

โ€œItโ€™s easy to look at the lack of goals and make a big issue of it,โ€ Trundle told the Western Mail โ€œItโ€™s not an issue because weโ€™re still up there โ€“ but the strikers know we could do with a few more.

โ€œItโ€™s tough because the way we set up with the extra man in midfield means we have a lot of possession

โ€œWe keep a hold of the ball a lot in the middle and it can limit what you get as a strikerย in and around the box so maybe we donโ€™t create as many chances as other sides.

โ€œBut the possession we have also means other teams donโ€™t see a lot of the ball and canโ€™t hurt us; itโ€™s one of the reasonโ€™s weโ€™ve not conceded many.

โ€œWeโ€™re up there in the table because weโ€™re playing well, whether weโ€™re scoring loads or not.

โ€œWe shouldnโ€™t be worrying about it too much when weโ€™re in the position weโ€™re in โ€“ itโ€™s working for us and the points are coming because weโ€™re playing well as a team.

โ€œOf course, weโ€™d want to score more and itโ€™s tough for the strikers when youโ€™re in that lone role and you know youโ€™ve got to wait for your chances in a game.

โ€œSo I think the most important thing is that when they come weโ€™ve got to start putting them away and making the most of the opportunities we get in a game.

โ€œCompetition is tough, especially when we are going with one up top

โ€œIโ€™ve come on and got my goals when Iโ€™ve been given the chance so I canโ€™t worry about things, but of course I would like more time on the field โ€“ just as any player would.

โ€œThereโ€™s a few of us fighting to start, but weโ€™re all completely different players and we all give different options.

โ€œShefkiโ€™s very powerful and strong and someone who will hold the ball up well. In fact, heโ€™s probably the type of player Iโ€™d love to play with because you know if you get the ball into him around the box youโ€™re going to get bits off him.

โ€œWhen we played together for a spell against Coventry it looked like we could work together and we have that option.

โ€œIt can be easy just to look at the strikers โ€“ but it is hard with the one up top. When you have a two there you have someone to drag players away and make space; with one youโ€™re tightly marked.

โ€œBut because of the way we play weโ€™re able to get goals from midfield because thatโ€™s where we break teams down and weโ€™re able to have people running on.

โ€œItโ€™s great to see goals coming from all over the place, but as strikers we know we canโ€™t rely on other areas and we have to put chances away up front when we get them.โ€
