Swansea City’s joint leading scorer was speaking on the eve of the Preston game with the Swans looking for a win that will move them within one point of fourth placed Cardiff.
The Swans have struck just 23 times in 27 league games this season and that statistic makes their 5th place league position even more remarkable.
Shefki Kuqi is excpected to make his first start for the club against Preston and Trundle hopes that all strikers can start hitting the target more in the run in to the end of the season.
โItโs easy to look at the lack of goals and make a big issue of it,โ Trundle told the Western Mail โItโs not an issue because weโre still up there โ but the strikers know we could do with a few more.
โItโs tough because the way we set up with the extra man in midfield means we have a lot of possession
โWe keep a hold of the ball a lot in the middle and it can limit what you get as a strikerย in and around the box so maybe we donโt create as many chances as other sides.
โBut the possession we have also means other teams donโt see a lot of the ball and canโt hurt us; itโs one of the reasonโs weโve not conceded many.
โWeโre up there in the table because weโre playing well, whether weโre scoring loads or not.
โWe shouldnโt be worrying about it too much when weโre in the position weโre in โ itโs working for us and the points are coming because weโre playing well as a team.
โOf course, weโd want to score more and itโs tough for the strikers when youโre in that lone role and you know youโve got to wait for your chances in a game.
โSo I think the most important thing is that when they come weโve got to start putting them away and making the most of the opportunities we get in a game.
โCompetition is tough, especially when we are going with one up top
โIโve come on and got my goals when Iโve been given the chance so I canโt worry about things, but of course I would like more time on the field โ just as any player would.
โThereโs a few of us fighting to start, but weโre all completely different players and we all give different options.
โShefkiโs very powerful and strong and someone who will hold the ball up well. In fact, heโs probably the type of player Iโd love to play with because you know if you get the ball into him around the box youโre going to get bits off him.
โWhen we played together for a spell against Coventry it looked like we could work together and we have that option.
โIt can be easy just to look at the strikers โ but it is hard with the one up top. When you have a two there you have someone to drag players away and make space; with one youโre tightly marked.
โBut because of the way we play weโre able to get goals from midfield because thatโs where we break teams down and weโre able to have people running on.
โItโs great to see goals coming from all over the place, but as strikers we know we canโt rely on other areas and we have to put chances away up front when we get them.โ
