The Swansea City captain believes that football will not be their highest priority against a Plymouth side fighting for their lives at the wrong end of the Championship table.
Monk also believes that the pitch at Home Park will not help their cause and called on his team mates to produce a performance similar to that which sunk Crystal Palace last Tuesday at Selhurst Park.
Speaking to the Western Mail, Monk said โWe know what weโre going to have to do
โThey are a side fighting for every point and we know how hard it is up against them at their place after last year.
โOn top of that, weโve seen the pitch down there and it looks horrendous. I donโt think our football is going to be the biggest priority down there.
โItโs going to have to be a similar performance as the Palace game last week, especially in terms of attitude.
โWeโre going to have to roll our sleeves up and show the character weโve got in the squad to grind out a result if we have to.
โIโm not sure we would have won that game last year,โ Monk added when questioned over last week’s midweek win.
โPerhaps thatโs the difference in terms of the management, Roberto would probably have thrown another twoย strikersย on and gone for the second goal!
โYou can tell where Paulo has played in the world, like Italy, where thereโs a bit more defensive-mindedness.
โHeโs happy for us to see games out when we have to.โ
And on former Swans striker Rory Fallon? โHeโs a big lad and heโs not afraid to hand out a few digs thatโs for sure,โ Monk added.
โHeโs an important player for them. Maybe he didnโt quite settle here as much as he would have liked.
โBut he moved up to the Championship while we were still in League One and heโs done well there ever since.
โHeโs done well at international level too, going to the World Cup this summer. So it shows heโs progressed since he was here and itโs nice to see.
โItโs going to be strange seeing him out there this summer
โBut heโs a great lad and itโs a great experience for him. Iโll definitely be watching him and cheering him on.
โI sent a text when he scored that goal telling him well done and that I was proud of him, and Iโll send him another to wish him all the best.โ
