The Swansea City striker was shown the red card for what Savage described as a “career ending tackle” on Saturday and over 24 hours after the incident Savage was still moaning about the tackle but talking himself up in terms of how he managed to get out of the way.
Pintado is accused of diving in from an astonishing 40 yards away with Savage moaning โIt was one of the worst Iโve ever seen. Itโs a good job I used my experience to get out of the way.
โIf I hadnโt done that I would have had a broken leg and that would have ended my career.
โHe should get banned for more than three games for that.
โI play on the edge but that was terrible. He knew he had to go.
โIf the guy hadnโt lunged from 40 yards, two-footed and thigh-high, that (the brawl that ensued) wouldnโt have happened.
โMost people will be glad it was on me. But what I want to see, as captain, is all my teammates coming in and sticking up for me.
โPaulo Sousa was on the sideline, appealing for everything,โ he said. โBut itโs a manโs game.
โThatโs why I got up and shook Pintadoโs hand. I wasnโt hurt so I got up. I might get a bit of credit for that. But I doubt it.
โWeโre disappointed with the result.
โBut Swansea are a good team. It was a horrible game. The pitch wasnโt conducive to playing good football and the atmosphere was quiet.
โNothing really happened, apart from the sendings off and a 1-1 would have been fair. Nobody deserved to win.โ
