The Swansea City goalkeeper is fully focused on the job in hand but also wants to be at the Celtic Manor on Sunday to hopefully see Europe win back the Ryder Cup.

De Vries is waiting on a call from a friend to confirm his attendance on Sunday as he explained to the Western Mail โ€œIโ€™m still hoping, I know a teaching professional at the golf club I used to play at whoโ€™s doing coaching sessions at the Ryder Cup all week. Heโ€™s supposed to be ringing me back and sorting me out. Iโ€™m still waiting, but I donโ€™t want to miss out.

โ€œIโ€™m a keen golfer and a big fan of the Ryder Cup. I play off 16, but Iโ€™m getting better as Iโ€™m having lessons โ€“ I was 21 not so long ago and the target is to get it down to under 10.

โ€œItโ€™s a great game and I love watching the pros and to have this kind of event up the road in Newport is quite amazing.

โ€œSo the plan would be for us to get a good win against Derby and then see Europe win on Sunday. It would make it a perfect weekend.

โ€œIt had been a bit difficult for us away from home,โ€ admitted de Vries.

โ€œA couple of results didnโ€™t go our way, even if the performances were there, and a few decisions went against us.

โ€œBut itโ€™s done now, people can stop talking about it and we can concentrate on kicking on.

โ€œThatโ€™s the important thing. It was great winning away for the first time this season, but the last thing we now want to do is let that go to waste by not getting it right at home.

โ€œThe Liberty is a great place to play, from the atmosphere to the surface, but the most important thing is that it is somewhere we are comfortable and confident no matter who we play.

โ€œYou still have to have that focus and that concentration and not just expect it to happen for us just because weโ€™re at home. It doesnโ€™t work like that.”
