Williams was as strong as he always has been at the heart of the Swans defence and he showed just how much the Swans would have missed him should he have moved on during the close season.
Williams does not always have to be the best player on the pitch but he has a presence about him that other players can feed off and that is one reason why we have got so many unexpected results during our time in the Premier League.
Speaking after the game though the Swans skipper revealed that he would have liked less attacking game but he recognised what a good result it was for his team
“It wasn’t that nice to play in – as a defender I would have liked a tighter game but a great way to start the season,” said Williams.
“We showed real character. When you go a goal down here to come back is a big thing. It feels a little disappointing as it feels like we could have nicked it.
“I spoke in the huddle before the game about being brave and that is on and off the ball. You need to show great character at places like this – as a group like this we were very brave.
“This will give us confidence and it is nice when you have worked pre-season to get something especially somewhere like this.
“If we can push on like this against a Chelsea side then we can do it anywhere”
