Shortly after that World Cup, Fernandez made the move to South Wales when Garry Monk bought him from Napoli and in his twelve months or so here in Swansea he has forged a brilliant partnership with Ashley WIlliams at the centre of the Swans defence.

Fernandez and Williams are a big part of the reason why we have flown so high in the Premier League for last season and this to date and he has been watching on with interest this week as his central defensive partner led Wales to the brink of qualification for Euro 2016.

And because of his team mates part in the Welsh team he wants Wales to qualify for the tournament next summer although he also naturally has an eye on his other team mates in international action as well

“Hopefully next month Wales will qualify for the tournament. I’d love to see them at Euro 2016,” said Fernandez.

“I looked out to see how the boys got on for their countries, and it was great to see Gylfi (Sigurdsson) score (against Holland) and then help Iceland qualify for the tournament.

“Jonjo (Shelvey) also got to start for the first time for England, which is great for him because he’s done very well for us so far this season.

“I also saw parts of the Wales games รขโ‚ฌโ€ they are so close to qualifying. Ash and Tayls played very well over the two games and we are glad to see them coming back without any injuries.”
