Sometimes a football manager can only say the obvious and that was certainly the case for Steve Cooper this evening as he had to admit after the game that the Swans were not at their best in tonight’s 1-1 draw at Blackburn.

You could probably build a case to say that Cooper’s comments were somewhat of an understatement after we were once again grateful to an Andre Ayew penalty to earn us a point on a night when neither side left the game with any credit.

The point did lift the Swans level with Watford in second place still with a game in hand but left a stark reality that things need to improve in the coming games if we are to capitalise on our position and earn ourselves a place in next season’s Premier League.

Speaking after the game Cooper said “It was not the best of performances, I did not like us at all first half, that is not the team I want us to be in terms of our style and identity.

โ€œIf we are going to make mistakes, I want us to do it our way, and that was not the case.

โ€œThat needed addressing, because we were not good enough on the ball.

โ€œThe second half was a little bit better, but not brilliant, and it wasnโ€™t a great game in the end.

โ€œWe are a point better off with one of the games in hand, sometimes if you donโ€™t play well you have to make sure you donโ€™t lose.

โ€œWe are picking up points, which is not a bad habit, and I cannot question the ladsโ€™ commitment and attitude, thereโ€™s players there who have played a lot of games.

โ€œIโ€™m not sitting here elated, because we have drawn and not played so well, but I wont dwell on it as itโ€™s a tough schedule. We have picked up a point in one of our games in hand.โ€
