The Swans links with Barry Bannan were always going to be interesting to watch during the change of managers that saw Steve Cooper depart the Liberty to be replaced by Russell Martin.
Bannan was very much someone who was thought to interest Cooper and possibly didn’t fit the mould that Russell Martin would be looking at for his team. Any move – even under Cooper – was always likely to be as a result of Matt Grimes leaving but the Sheffield Wednesday captain has appeared to end any transfer speculation by saying that he thinks he will be staying at Hillsbrough for the new season.
In an interview with the Sheffield Star, he said: “Yeah, I’m sure I’ll be here (at the end of the summer window). I’ve got a job to do in getting the team back to the Championship, and I’m looking forward to doing that.
“I’ve been the leader of the team, I’ve been here for so long, and getting relegated is never nice – especially in my first season as captain.
“I took it personally and it wasn’t a good feeling. I feel that I owe it to the club and fans to get them back to the Championship.”
As well as the Swans, Bannan has also been linked with a move to Brentford.
Is Bannon really good enough, especially by Martin’s standards, to play Swan’s holding CMF? It’s interesting to read that writer wrote that Cooper speculated Grimes was going to leave this summer, even before any notion of Cooper leaving.
