It’s not even January yet and the speculation is underway after the Swans were linked today via a Tweet with former Chelsea left back Patrick van Aanholt.

The 32 year old defender has had a variety of clubs in England with Coventry, Newcastle, Leicester and Wigan all being loan destinations whilst Sunderland and Crystal Palace are added to Chelsea as the list of permanent homes in this country.

Van Aanholt signed for Galatasaray in July 2021 on a three year deal but it is now suggested that they are happy to let him move on with the Swans linked, along with Championship rivals Watford.

It is difficult to see too much mileage in this link for the Swans.ย  Whilst likely to be in the market for a wing back type player at 32 Van Aanholt does not fit the mould of the kind of player that the Swans are likely to be linked with.ย  Russell martin has always put a focus on youth where he can and talks about building up value in young players for the club.

As ever time will tell but links are early.

Been watching the Swans since the very late 1970s and running the Planet Swans website (in all its current and previous guises since the summer of 2001 As it stood JackArmy.net was right at the forefront of some of the activity against Tony Petty back in 2001, breaking many of the stories of the day as fans stood against the actions where the local media failed. Was involved with the Swans Supporters Trust from 2005, for the large part as Chairman before standing down in the summer of 2020.
