It was only day 1 of the transfer window but Portsmouth defender Zak Swanson and USA international George Bello are both transfer links for the Swans if reports are to be believed.

The Swans are expected to have a relatively busy transfer window and the latest two names are not necessarily ones that will end up in SA1 by the end of the window but links are links and deserve some level of discussion at least.

Swanson impressed last season at Portsmouth after joining the club in the summer of 2022 from Arsenal and is reported by Football Insider to be high on the list of both the Swans and Coventry City.ย  The publications reports that he “madeย 25 appearances in all competitions for Portsmouth last term and chipped in with two goals and one assist.

“Swanson, who came through the ranks at Arsenal, had a loan spell in Holland with MVV Maastricht in 2020 and he was a regular for the clubโ€™s Under-23s.

“Swanson had been training with the Arsenal first team and was named on the bench for the final 15 Premier League games of 2021-22.

“The defender scored twice and provided two assists in 32 games for Arsenal Under-23s.”

Turning to Bello the same publication reports that he is already in talks with both Swansea and Watford and says that there is a clause within his current contract that could see him leave for free this summer.

Bello made 25 appearances across all competitions for Arminia Bielefeld this season, including in both legs of their relegation play-off match against Wehen Wiesbaden.

He has primarily deployed at left-back for the side but has also shown his versatility by playing further forward as a left midfielder.

It is not unfeasible to think that both these players could well feature on our list of potential targets.ย  Both play in areas that we will be looking to strengthen this summer but I doubt the likelihood that we are already speaking to Bello although that’s not something I could say for certain.

The reality is that these are early days in the window and links will appear on a regular basis, these two are just the latest in the line of those links!
