The move was revealed by Swansea City Chairman Huw Jenkins although from his comments it seems unlikely to happen because of a difference in valuation between the two clubs – Cardiff are reported to want around ยฃ3m for Bothroyd who is also attracting interest from Aston Villa.

Speaking to the Western Mail regards the bold move, Jenkins said โ€œWe have spoken to Dave Jones about the possibility of signing Jay

โ€œWe were interested in a number ofย strikersย and that was one conversation we had.

โ€œHe is not a player that is within our price range, though. Cardiffโ€™s valuation for Jay is miles out from where we put ours.

โ€œThat is where things stand at the moment. We couldnโ€™t come anywhere near Cardiffโ€™s valuation.

โ€œIt is not a disappointment, though. Itโ€™s fine for us, no concern whatsoever.

โ€œFans might not be sure at first, but, if he was a hit here, his time at Cardiff wouldnโ€™t matter.

โ€œWe have gone past that and Iโ€™m sure Cardiff have as well.

โ€œIf they wanted to take one of our players and he did well for them, like certain other players have over the years, there are no issues whatsoever. Just look at Alan Curtis.

โ€œJay is the type of player we are looking at. Whether you look at the Championship, above or below, you want a player that suits what we believe is right for our formation and Jay is one of them.

โ€œWe are interested in tidy players.People will obviously be more interested in this one because he is a Cardiff player.โ€
