The Swansea City captain believes that football will not be their highest priority against a Plymouth side fighting for their lives at the wrong end of the Championship table.

Monk also believes that the pitch at Home Park will not help their cause and called on his team mates to produce a performance similar to that which sunk Crystal Palace last Tuesday at Selhurst Park.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Monk said โ€œWe know what weโ€™re going to have to do

โ€œThey are a side fighting for every point and we know how hard it is up against them at their place after last year.

โ€œOn top of that, weโ€™ve seen the pitch down there and it looks horrendous. I donโ€™t think our football is going to be the biggest priority down there.

โ€œItโ€™s going to have to be a similar performance as the Palace game last week, especially in terms of attitude.

โ€œWeโ€™re going to have to roll our sleeves up and show the character weโ€™ve got in the squad to grind out a result if we have to.

โ€œIโ€™m not sure we would have won that game last year,โ€ Monk added when questioned over last week’s midweek win.

โ€œPerhaps thatโ€™s the difference in terms of the management, Roberto would probably have thrown another twoย strikersย on and gone for the second goal!

โ€œYou can tell where Paulo has played in the world, like Italy, where thereโ€™s a bit more defensive-mindedness.

โ€œHeโ€™s happy for us to see games out when we have to.โ€

And on former Swans striker Rory Fallon? โ€œHeโ€™s a big lad and heโ€™s not afraid to hand out a few digs thatโ€™s for sure,โ€ Monk added.

โ€œHeโ€™s an important player for them. Maybe he didnโ€™t quite settle here as much as he would have liked.

โ€œBut he moved up to the Championship while we were still in League One and heโ€™s done well there ever since.

โ€œHeโ€™s done well at international level too, going to the World Cup this summer. So it shows heโ€™s progressed since he was here and itโ€™s nice to see.

โ€œItโ€™s going to be strange seeing him out there this summer

โ€œBut heโ€™s a great lad and itโ€™s a great experience for him. Iโ€™ll definitely be watching him and cheering him on.

โ€œI sent a text when he scored that goal telling him well done and that I was proud of him, and Iโ€™ll send him another to wish him all the best.โ€
