The Swansea City striker was shown the red card for what Savage described as a “career ending tackle” on Saturday and over 24 hours after the incident Savage was still moaning about the tackle but talking himself up in terms of how he managed to get out of the way.

Pintado is accused of diving in from an astonishing 40 yards away with Savage moaning โ€œIt was one of the worst Iโ€™ve ever seen. Itโ€™s a good job I used my experience to get out of the way.

โ€œIf I hadnโ€™t done that I would have had a broken leg and that would have ended my career.

โ€œHe should get banned for more than three games for that.

โ€œI play on the edge but that was terrible. He knew he had to go.

โ€œIf the guy hadnโ€™t lunged from 40 yards, two-footed and thigh-high, that (the brawl that ensued) wouldnโ€™t have happened.

โ€œMost people will be glad it was on me. But what I want to see, as captain, is all my teammates coming in and sticking up for me.

โ€œPaulo Sousa was on the sideline, appealing for everything,โ€ he said. โ€œBut itโ€™s a manโ€™s game.

โ€œThatโ€™s why I got up and shook Pintadoโ€™s hand. I wasnโ€™t hurt so I got up. I might get a bit of credit for that. But I doubt it.

โ€œWeโ€™re disappointed with the result.

โ€œBut Swansea are a good team. It was a horrible game. The pitch wasnโ€™t conducive to playing good football and the atmosphere was quiet.

โ€œNothing really happened, apart from the sendings off and a 1-1 would have been fair. Nobody deserved to win.โ€
