The Cardiff City manager launched an attack on members of the media for their writing ability following the defeat to Swansea that ended Cardiff’s winning streak in the Championship.
His side were second best on the day to Brendan Rodgers’ Swans that caused many fans and journalists to question his tactics as he tried to compensate for the loss of Jay Bothroyd.
But he hit back at the criticism and told the Western Mail “We’ve just come off the back of six wins and we lose one. So you have to take whatever is thrown at you.
“But some of the fools who are writing and everything else, they haven’t got a clue.
“Fine, you have to put up with it as a manager. But I can’t believe some of the stupid things that come out of it. We lose a game and it’s the end of the world.
“It’s because they don’t understand me. When I said I didn’t enjoy derbies, I meant I do enjoy playing in them, but I don’t enjoy the rubbish that goes with it,” argued Jones.
“Does it worry me they think I don’t care about what the derby does? Look, they don’t know me, ask my players about me.
“Everybody has an opinion, but you get character assassinated. They didn’t character assassinate me for the six games before, but you lose one game and, because it’s against local rivals, you are the worst.
“What has happened is I have lost a football match. I’m gutted and I’m asked stupid questions afterwards about how I am.
“If I stood there and said I’m happy, I’m sure that would suit them far better.
“I think people get a little bit clouded in this part of the world (about the derby), certainly some of the reporters writing on it.
“I think they are buffoons. They don’t understand, have never played in a derby game. They just write what they want to write.
“I just do my job to the best of my ability. We have lost to one of our rivals, but if we win our next six games it’s hunky-dory again.
“Whether we’re playing Swansea or whoever, we want to win every match. We lost the last one, we try to put it right at Reading.
“I did a talk yesterday for the FAW Trust, who analysed the game for people doing their A licences.
“They tell me we had more entries into the final third of the pitch and better chances, but we lost the football match.
“We can analyse it as much as you want to analyse it. But a mistake cost us the game.
“Yes, we didn’t play particularly well, but there was hardly anything in the game. no clear-cut chances.
“That’s my opinion and I’m sure people will have other opinions.
“I would dread to be in the bottom two in this part of world with the way some react.
“We’ve got to put the season into context. We lost a football match. Pretty it up as much as you want. but don’t judge us on one game.
“Suddenly I’ve become the worst person in the world, the players don’t care enough, they earn too much money. Don’t do this, do that. But they do care, it’s why we’re second in the league.”
