The Swansea City striker headed home the equalising goal from Mark Gower’s free kick amongst allegations that the goal should not have stood following a foul by Beattie on an Ipswich defender.

But he dismissed such talk and told the Western Mail โ€œI think it was clever

โ€œThatโ€™s part of football. I think youโ€™re unlucky if you get a foul against you for that.

โ€œI was given a football education by John Hartson so the big man has played a part in that goal.

โ€œIf you go back and watch some of Johnโ€™s goals from crosses he was clever.

โ€œBut there was more to Johnโ€™s game than just being big and having the ball put on his head.

โ€œI donโ€™t think big John scored many like my second goal but he knocked a few in so fair play to the big man.

โ€œIโ€™m not going to get carried away,โ€ he added.

โ€œI was signed to score goals and thatโ€™s just me doing my job.

โ€œIโ€™m not going to set any targets.

โ€œIโ€™m hard on myself when Iโ€™m not doing it. When Iโ€™m not scoring and not playing well and Iโ€™m injured you donโ€™t want to be around me.โ€

Beattie also paid tribute to Brendan Rodgers and added โ€œI had a few problems last year with a couple of knocks and not getting selected

โ€œI had a bad injury in pre-season which really frustrated me but I got my head sorted pretty quickly and the manager was absolutely brilliant with me.

โ€œHe didnโ€™t put me under any pressure and said to get strong and fit and in good condition.

โ€œHe has always said he is convinced Iโ€™ll score goals and I just want to keep working hard and do as best as I can for him because heโ€™s brilliant.

โ€œHopefully, the goals are repaying that faith. I canโ€™t speak highly enough of him.โ€
