Vice Captain Tate has stepped up to the captain’s armband with Monk out for 6 weeks minimum.

And that is a step up he is happy to take as he explained to the Western Mail โ€œBeing captain is something youโ€™ve got to enjoy and cherish and I certainly do,โ€

โ€œIโ€™m a natural talker anyway, the same as Monks, and thatโ€™s probably why we are captain and vice-captain.

โ€œAshleyโ€™s (Williams) also a great talker and thatโ€™s what you need from defenders. Someone who is going to organise people.

โ€œI love being captain, but it wonโ€™t change the way I play.

โ€œIโ€™m captain at the moment while Monks is out, but you canโ€™t take for granted that you are going to play because you are captain.

โ€œHopefully I can be the player the gaffer needs at the back.

โ€œItโ€™s been hard watching. But to be back playing, get a 3-0 win to take us clear second is all you can ask for.

โ€œWe donโ€™t need to send messages to anyone.

โ€œPeople know who we are, how we like to play and what we like to do.

โ€œItโ€™s just another game for us and no matter who we play we will try and play a certain way.

โ€œI enjoyed it. I felt really comfortable out there.

โ€œItโ€™s no change for me because I am used to chopping and changing. I might get a run at centre-half now, but I am happy to be playing, where ever it is.

โ€œJazz has come in and he is a great player and doesnโ€™t need me to look after him. I talk to him and tell him where I need him, but thatโ€™s about it.

โ€œHeโ€™s a good player and he can adapt to anything.โ€
