Cork finished off the first goal for the Swans after he converted Matt Grimes corner and although the Swans were pulled back in the second half after the award of a penalty, Bafetimbi Gomis was on hand to score the winner with a little over 15 minutes to go.

The general feeling in the Swans camp was that they were pleased with the win but not as happy as potentially they were with the midweek performance and that was a viewpoint echoed by Cork.

รขโ‚ฌล“Although our play at times wasnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt the best, we did most of the things we started out to do,รขโ‚ฌโ„ขรขโ‚ฌโ„ข explained Cork.

รขโ‚ฌล“We started the first 15 minutes brightly; kept the ball well and got the opening goal. It dropped to me perfectly and I couldnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt do anything but hit it first time. Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm happy with the goal.

รขโ‚ฌล“They changed their game a little bit, put more pressure on us and made it difficult. They ended up playing very well, but we still got out of it what we wanted – we ended up winning the game.”

Cork is likely to be an integral part of the Swans midfield this season following his move to the Swans from Southampton and he could well – with a good season – force himself into the international frame for next season’s European Championship finals in France.

He believes that the work the club is currently putting in will keep them on track for what looks like a tough start to the season.

“If we keep on doing what the manager wants us to do and stick to the plan, it will benefit us during the season.

รขโ‚ฌล“Weรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve played two very good teams and theyรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve put us through good tests. Weรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve got some tough teams coming up at the start of the season, like Chelsea on the opening day, so we need to be fit and ready for it.

“Games like this will test us and get us ready for it.รขโ‚ฌโ„ขรขโ‚ฌโ„ข
