It looked as if those four years had come to an end last May when he was released from the club along with David Cornell but he is now back as a third goalkeeper alongside Lukasz Fabianski and Kristoffer Nordfeldt.

It’s a bit of a strange turnaround for a keeper who was second choice for the four years he was in but now it looks like he is third choice at the club having failed to find other alternatives since his release from the club.

But Monk is happy to see back the man who has made more than 50 appearances over those four years including being an ever present in the Capital One cup winning run of 2013.

รขโ‚ฌล“In the summer, I wanted to bring in a fresh keeper to create that competition,รขโ‚ฌย said Monk.

รขโ‚ฌล“I spoke to Gerhard, heรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs been No.2 since heรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs been here and highly dependable when heรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs played.

รขโ‚ฌล“Heรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs contributed to the club, but I wanted to being someone in for the future of the club to try and push Fab.

รขโ‚ฌล“I wanted to give Gerhard the opportunity to see if there were opportunities out there for him to play.

รขโ‚ฌล“After weighing up all those options heรขโ‚ฌโ„ขs decided to come back and Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขm delighted to have him back.รขโ‚ฌย
