The East Anglian Daily Times is reporting that the Swans have moved ahead of Bournemouth and look likely to sign midfielder Flynn Downes after his negotiations with Bournemouth hit a deadlock.

With former Ipswich coach Matt Gill coming to the Liberty along with new head coach Russell Martin there is a natural link with Downes who has made a strong impression at Ipswich during his first season before handing in a transfer request after they rejected multiple bids from Crystal Palace.

After an injury hit campaign last time around he was one of several players instructed to train with the Under-23s at Portman Road although interestingly the publication reports that Ipswich are likely to want a “seven figure fee” for the player who has also attracted interest from Barnsley and Peterborough.

The bids rejected last summer from Palace were understood to be in the region of ยฃ1.6m but that was before hnee and hamstring injuries restricted him to just 17 starts and eight sub appearances in 2020/21.
