The European Cup Winners Cup<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n\n\n

In 1960\/61, UEFA introduced a new competition called the European Cup Winners Cup. The name provided just what it suggested, a competition for the various cup winners throughout Europe to compete in against each other.<\/p>\n

As a member of UEFA, the Welsh FA were allowed to enter the winners of the Welsh Cup into the competition, giving the Swans a route into Europe. On 7 separate occasions they played in the competition, mainly in the preliminary round but on one occasion (1982\/83) they did proceed to the last 16 of the competition.<\/p>\n

With the founding of the League of Wales in the early 1990s, the Welsh clubs playing in the English pyramid were banished from the Welsh Cup and therefore also from a route into European Football. UEFA disbanded the competition at the end of the 1998\/99 season, with the cup winners from the various nations going into the UEFA Cup instead.<\/p>\n
