Continuing our countdown to the end of the Vetch era – we look at a few more of the responses we have had by asking fans to answer the question “What is your favourite Vetch memory and why?”<\/p>\n

I haven’t really seen any “Great moments” down the Vetch, so it has to be the HUll game when we avoided relegation. I was in the East Stand for that game but I was dying to be on the North Ban, the atmosphere was electric and Thomas’ hat-trick along with Johnrose’s goal sent the fans into raptures. The final whistle on that day was one of the best moments in my life”<\/p>\n

In terms of sheer pleasure of the win, the last gasp Matt Bound goal that beat Cardiff 2-1<\/p>\n
Jamie Bray, Morriston<\/p>\n
I’ve only been to the Vetch 3 times as a Lincolm supporter and despite not seeing us win there, my favourite moment was when we went 2-0 up after 15 minutes in the 2003\/4 season. It ended 2-2 but that result kick started out season. Also, I enjoyed the 2002\/3 game when we lost 2-0 and your fans started singing “2-0 to the Sheep Shaggers”<\/p>\n
Nathan Jackson, Lincoln<\/p>\n
When we won promotion in 2000 against Exeter City. It was during my first season supporting the Swans and my first time in the North Bank. The Vetch was a sell out and there was obviously a great atmosphere especially as we were 3-0 up at half time. I remember everyone singing ‘The Jacks are going up’ and it seems all the more special when it ‘s actually true. They even gave out songsheets to the supporters with the lyrics to Delilah although it never got going properly. The second half was one big party and no one cared when Nick Cusack missed a penalty. Then after the game had finished the fans flocked onto the pitch and the player later came out with the champagne corks popping to celebrate with the fans. THis being my first pitch invasion at such a happy time, the memory will always be with me.<\/p>\n

The whole of the Toshack era, David Gwyther’s numerous goals, Brian Evans flying down the wing, Vic Gomersall and his big chest, magic Alan Curtis, Skilfull Robbie James etc etc<\/p>\n

The game against Preston has to be my favourite memory because the atmosphere was electric. And when Andy Robinson hit that free kick in the last 10 minutes, I’ve never felt a buzz like that before<\/p>\n
Steven Carrol, Manselton<\/p>\n
When Carl Heggs scored against Chester in the play off semi final, I was stuck in the East Stand when the whole ground erupted, going home was total gridlock – all the cars beeping with flags\/scarves realising we’d just got to Wembley<\/p>\n
Matt Williams, Port Talbot<\/p>\n
The first game in the 1st Division against Leeds. Jeremy Charles’ goal to put us one up, Bob Latchford’s hat-trick and Alan Curtis’ wonder goal<\/p>\n
Paul Huxtable, Swansea<\/p>\n
Toshack’s header versus Chesterfield which won us the game 2-1 and got us promoted to division two. A packed Vetch erupted. The noise was truly deafening.<\/p>\n
Dai, Swansea<\/p>\n
Can’t remember the year or who we were playing but it was the last game of the season. There was a mini pitch invasion and the stewards were ushering everyone back. Then this absolutely massive bloke with the Swans tattooed over his body, strolled onto the pitch (there was an echoed mutter from the North Bank of hell”) the stewards themselves at the size of him and the police didn’t want to know either. The guy strolled up to the away end, and the once boisterous away fans legged to the back of the stand<\/p>\n
James Lewis, Swansea<\/p>\n
Don’t know where to start on this one anything Lee Trundle does this days can make an impression. The one v Huddersfield Town rolling the ball on his neck and chest is just class<\/p>\n
Jason Downer, Winch Wen<\/p>\n
As a Dale fan, I only have one memory of the Vetch, a night 45 Dale fans will remember. Previous Dale performances had been pretty dire and we needed something to kick start a good end to the season to ensure our survival and it came in this match. It was a pretty cold night but no wind or rain as I remember. Dale kicked off shooting away from us I think and we were playing some good football. This led eventually to a Leo Bertos goal sending the 45 of us mad. Shame you lot had to equalise later on. Anyways, that game gave us a boost and we went on to perform very week in the next few matches and stayed in OUR division.<\/p>\n
The Mighty Dale, Rochdale<\/p>\n
I stood on the North Bank when the Swans were in the old first division and have many memories from that time, but to watch Max Thompson’s thunderbolt goal against Arsenal from a Dzemal Hadziabdic free kick has to be my most special moment<\/p>\n
