Robbie was my hero, along with Bob Latchford.<\/p>\n

My mates all loved Alan Curtis, but whilst Curt had the flair, Robbie was our barrel-chested midfield legend. Played for the club as man and boy, in every division. He scored vital goals, he tackle, he set them up.<\/p>\n

Forget your Lampards, Beckhams, Gerrards or Giggs, he was ‘our boy’, even when he played for Cardiff. He was the first and maybe last Swans player in the tabloids. I remember him charging over the Vetch, looking the same in his thirties as a teenager.. As a boy of 13, I will never forget him holding the Welsh Cup aloft in front of a seething mass of hatred of the Bluebirds fans in the West Terrace.<\/p>\n

I though it was the bravest thing I had ever seen. I cried when he died. I’ve had three heroes in my life: I was lucky enough to be taught by one (Maurice Wilkins) and meet one (John Peel). I only ever watched Robbie play, but that was enough.<\/p>\n
