{"id":14699,"date":"2007-09-08T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2007-09-08T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.staging28.planetswans.co.uk\/?p=14699"},"modified":"2020-09-22T11:26:01","modified_gmt":"2020-09-22T11:26:01","slug":"no-joy-for-under-21s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jackarmy.net\/wp67\/2007\/09\/08\/no-joy-for-under-21s\/","title":{"rendered":"No Joy For Under 21s"},"content":{"rendered":"<table>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p>No Joy For Swans Pair As Under-21s Lose<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p>REPORT &#8211; BBC.co.uk<\/p>\n<p>A Neal Eardley own-goal condemned a brave Wales side to defeat in their first UEFA Championship group match.<\/p>\n<p>The Oldham defender turned a right-wing cross into his own net from six yards in the 50th minute. <\/p>\n<p>It was a result of constant French pressure as Crewe youngster Owain fon Williams was kept very busy in the Welsh goal. <\/p>\n<p>Wales came closest to an equaliser with two minutes left when Mike Williams headed narrowly over. <\/p>\n<p>France had already only drawn their first group match last month against Romania, so they desperately needed to get their campaign going with a victory. <\/p>\n<p>And Wales were forced to battle hard at the back, with Williams and Cardiff&#8217;s Chris Gunter outstanding at the heart of defence, and somehow reached the break still level. <\/p>\n<p>That was partly thanks to Owain fon Willaims&#8217; outstanding save in the 27th minute from a free-kick by Newcastle&#8217;s Charles N&#8217;Zogbia. <\/p>\n<p>Wales&#8217; only first-half chance fell to Wrexham&#8217;s Mike Williams, who fired over from eight yards. <\/p>\n<p>France continued with the pressure in the second half until the breakthrough came on 50 minutes. <\/p>\n<p>It continued to be one-way traffic, but boss Bryan Flynn opted for extra attackers in the final minutes looking for an equaliser. <\/p>\n<p>He took off Swansea midfielders Joe Allen and Shaun MacDonald midway through the half, sending on Neil Taylor and Sam Vokes, but to no avail. ><\/p>\n<p>What are your thoughts?
