After Derby's very public pursuit of Ferrie all summer, the saga came to a close yesterday afternoon as the Swans secured a long term deal to keep the player at Swansea ahead of the clutches of the Pride Park club who had made him their number one target for the summer.<\/p>\n
And whilst it is a division lower and in a different financial league to the Premiership stars the Swans boss believes that it is a victory for football over money. He told the Western Mail “Ask Sir Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger and the problems they are having with Ronaldo and Adebayor – every team that has had success unfortunately has people wanting to make money from the situation<\/p>\n
“I think we lost a couple of players ourselves who made decisions by looking into the financial terms and not at the football point of view.<\/p>\n
“Ferrie has been fresh and decided to play for Swansea City because he believes the money will eventually come as a result of his football decision. That’s a huge compliment to Swansea City.<\/p>\n
“Whatever has happened, I think fans will understand it is the final decision that counts.”<\/p>\n
Martinez also hit out at agents and he called on FIFA to step in and sort the problem “His own agent has been great with us, but other people get involved<\/p>\n
