{"id":15313,"date":"2008-08-26T22:54:00","date_gmt":"2008-08-26T22:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.staging28.planetswans.co.uk\/?p=15313"},"modified":"2020-09-22T11:26:01","modified_gmt":"2020-09-22T11:26:01","slug":"swans-progress-into-round-3-at-hulls-expense","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jackarmy.net\/wp67\/2008\/08\/26\/swans-progress-into-round-3-at-hulls-expense\/","title":{"rendered":"Swans Progress Into Round 3 At Hull&#8217;s Expense"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>thisisswansea.co.uk<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Swansea City ended Hull&#39;s unbeaten start to the season by clinching a richly-deserved 2-1 Carling Cup second-round victory at the Liberty Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The Coca-Cola Championship side overcame an early deficit to triumph in extra time courtesy of a Jordi Gomez penalty.<\/p>\n<p>Veteran striker Dean Windass, making his first start of the campaign, fired Hull ahead during a one-sided opening period.<\/p>\n<p>But Swansea drew level through Gorka Pintado&#39;s 62nd-minute glancing header, although the Spaniard then had an injury-time penalty saved that would have spared his team the additional 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Pintado&#39;s arrival as a 54th-minute substitute injected life into Swansea, and Hull had to play second fiddle for the remainder of a fast and furious second period. <\/p>\n<p>The Tigers, buoyant following a Barclays Premier League victory over Fulham and draw against Blackburn, took a deserved 11th-minute lead. <\/p>\n<p>The impressive Nicky Barmby threaded a pass into Swansea&#39;s penalty area, and Caleb Folan&#39;s dummy gave Windass all the time and space he needed to slot the ball past a stranded Dorus de Vries.<\/p>\n<p>Swansea boss Roberto Martinez made a double substitution within nine minutes of the restart, sending on Pintado for Joe Allen and replacing Matty Collins with Angel Rangel.<\/p>\n<p>It paid immediate dividends, with Pintado sending a glancing header past Duke for a deserved equaliser.<\/p>\n<p>Swansea continued to pound away inside Hull&#39;s half and a superb Pintado run ended with a drive smashing against the post.<\/p>\n<p>Swansea grabbed the only goal of the extra period when Michael Turner fouled Shaun MacDonald in the box and Gomez tucked in the penalty just before half-time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>thisisswansea.co.uk &nbsp; Swansea City ended Hull&#39;s unbeaten start to the season by clinching a richly-deserved 2-1 Carling Cup second-round victory at the Liberty Stadium.
