Derby lost to Doncaster on the opening day of the season and Jewell is mindful of that as he brings his side to South Wales for the league clash – a clash that could see the Swans move into the top 6 with the right result.<\/p>\n
However, he insists that he is bringing a team full of confidence after they recorde their first win for almost a year against Sheffield United on the weekend – a win that lifted them from the relegation zone in the early table.<\/p>\n
And he is hoping that the win will prove to be a springboard for his side who had suffered "a crisis of confidence" after so long without a win.<\/p>\n
Talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph, Jewell said "We go to Swansea with a bus full of confidence<\/p>\n
"There is no guarantee we'll win but we will go there with a positive approach.<\/p>\n
"Swansea are a good team. Like Doncaster, they have been together for a considerable amount of time, so we have to pay them huge respect.<\/p>\n
"But the players now know they can win a match, I know that sounds mad but I said to them last week that they are proven at this level, some are proven at a higher level, some at international level. They are good players, go out and show it.<\/p>\n
"A crisis of confidence had built up. It was a bit unfair on a lot of players who were not even here last season but have been tarred with the brush from last season, and that has affected them.<\/p>\n
"Hopefully, that has gone now and we can go on to better things.<\/p>\n
"In fairness to the players they have worked hard. They have taken a lot of stick, along with us all, and we know we are not out of the woods yet.<\/p>\n
"We are not getting too carried away but I believe with the players we have we are good enough to have decent season.<\/p>\n
"Whatever that is, I don't know. I don't want to make predictions. It is a tough league we are in but it is also a tight league. Three or four wins can put you right up there just as three or four defeats can put you in the mire.<\/p>\n
"How much of a springboard can the win be? Hopefully, we could be looking at 10 points by next Saturday night. We will go to Swansea with a spring in our step<\/p>\n
"The mood is bouyant but our feet remain on the ground.<\/p>\n
"I have been saying for some time that maybe we are one League victory away from going on a run. Saturday's win was certainly a boost in confidence not just for the players and the supporters, but for the whole place.<\/p>\n
"We know one game isn't going to change the world but it can go a long way to changing our season if we can use it as a springboard.<\/p>\n
