Swansea City will come face to face with Lee Trundle at Ashton Gate this afternoon – the first time they have lined up against each other since Trundle made the trip up the M4 around at the start of last season.<\/p>\n
But Gomez appreciates the legend that is Trundle around Swansea but is focused on helping the Swans get three points today – three points that could propel them into the play off zone for the first time this season.<\/p>\n
Gomez will return to the Swans side today after missing the Cardiff game through suspension and is likely to take the Ferrie Bodde mantle from here on in with him expected to line up along side Darren Pratley and Owain Tudur Jones in the centre of midfield.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the Western Mail the online Espanyol player said \u201cI have heard of Trundle<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is a legend here but he is not on our team anymore so he will not be helping us to win.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have seen videos of him and his tricks and his goals \u2013 nice goals too, not typical British ones.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it will be a special game for those who played with him at Swansea because they know what he can do and what he did for the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut it is about the players that are here now that matters \u2013 he is in the past and will be trying to stop us winning the game at Bristol.<\/p>\n
\u201cSure, after the game it is fine to be friends and things can be OK between us, but it is too important for us to win to think too much about one player in their side rather than the ones in ours.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was obviously disappointed to miss the Cardiff match after enjoying the first one so much,\u201d said the 23-year-old, whose name is already in the Swansea history books after his Carling Cup winner against the Bluebirds back in September.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut it was good to see the game from the stands and feel the atmosphere from there and how it is different to being out on the pitch.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a great occasion and it is not something I have experienced in Spain.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I have been to games with good atmospheres before, like matches at the Camp Nou, but it tends to have to be a great game to get that feeling.<\/p>\n
\u201cHere it seems like there is a great atmosphere every week, and then something more when it is Cardiff.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut that is gone now and it is important to remember we are in a league competition where one win against one side doesn\u2019t really mean anything.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to look for wins every week, so every week is a big game.<\/p>\n
\u201cPerhaps people forget this sometimes but our aim is to finish in the top six.<\/p>\n
\u201cI looked at the league before I came here so I knew about Bristol City and what they achieved in their first year in the Championship.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is a sign that anyone can beat anyone, so we have to aim to do the same.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a lot of talk before the Cardiff game about the midfield<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I wasn\u2019t worried about the side because there are too many good players around the squad not for them to do well.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do feel we can do things to cope when we have players out.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must show this if we are to push for the top six like we hope to.\u201d<\/p>\n
Victory at Ashton Gate could see the Swans make the play-off positions and the Robins\u2019 rocky spell in recent weeks will boost hope Martinez\u2019s men have what it takes to kick on into the second half of the season.<\/p>\n
But, as talk of permanent deals for the talented Gomez gathers momentum ahead of the January transfer window, the player himself is keen just to focus on the here and now.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is for others to decide,\u201d said Gomez on his future, his loan stay at Swansea only confirmed until the end of the season.<\/p>\n
