{"id":15772,"date":"2008-12-07T21:55:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-07T21:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.staging28.planetswans.co.uk\/?p=15772"},"modified":"2020-12-06T22:01:46","modified_gmt":"2020-12-06T22:01:46","slug":"revenge-not-on-the-monk-menu-or-is-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jackarmy.net\/wp67\/2008\/12\/07\/revenge-not-on-the-monk-menu-or-is-it\/","title":{"rendered":"Revenge Not On The Monk Menu &#8211; Or Is It?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Swansea City captain will come face to face with Barnsley for the first time since that fateful day in May 2006 when a couple of missed penalties from the Swans sent Barnsley into the Championship.<\/p>\n<p>But that is in the past according to the Swans captain who told Wales on Sunday \u201cIt hadn\u2019t crossed my mind and that says a lot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, there are a lot of bad memories from that day that still hurt \u2013 but the two teams have changed so much from that match I don\u2019t think you can talk about revenge or grudge matches or anything like that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re in the Championship now anyway and I think the only way it would have mattered it we hadn\u2019t progressed since that day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, we missed an opportunity that day, but now we\u2019re here and that\u2019s what counts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we were still stuck down there and we were playing Barnsley, then that might be different \u2013 but we\u2019ve moved on for the better and the fact we\u2019re only interested in three points and getting into the top six rather than revenge says it all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think you can say it\u2019s turned out for the better or that it would have been too soon for us to have gone up back then because people were only saying at the start of this year we couldn\u2019t compete in the Championship, but we\u2019re doing it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho knows what would have happened if we had won that day as we should have?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBarnsley managed to stay up and have competed themselves so we don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still haven\u2019t watched the game back, but you can\u2019t completely forget about it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t happen too often, but just random occasions it will pop into your head; like when lads are talking about different experiences and then it just flashes in and the disappointment all comes back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had all the hype of the derby, but that\u2019s behind us and it\u2019s good to able to put pressure on ourselves to win more games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve dropped points to Birmingham and Coventry recently \u2013 and the fact we\u2019re saying that shows how we want to do well in this league.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Monk though is quoted in News of the World as saying &#8220;I&#8217;m after revenge.\u00a0 I want to set the record straight.\u00a0\u00a0 The play off final is the worst memory of my career along with the knee injury that ruled me out for a year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That game is still in my mind it&#8217;s something I can&#8217;t ever let go.\u00a0 The more I think about the play off final the more worked up I get about the Barnsley game.\u00a0\u00a0 First and foremost we want the three points but on a personal level I want to get one over on Barnsley.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We deserved to win the play off final.\u00a0 We should have won promotion to the Championship two years ago.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Swansea City captain will come face to face with Barnsley for the first time since that fateful day in May 2006 when a couple of missed penalties from the Swans sent Barnsley into the Championship.
