The Swansea City manager witnessed his side turn in a magnificent display to end Portsmouth’s grip on the trophy at Fratton Park and could not hide his delight as the supporters sung his name at the final whistle.<\/p>\n
“It wouldn’t say it was a fluke, we were the better side over the 90 minutes,” Martinez told BBC Wales.<\/p>\n
“It was a great performance to the end because we had to hold our concentration and our focus.<\/p>\n
“To get the two-goal cushion was important.<\/p>\n
“The players have worked extremely hard and success in football doesn’t come as an accident<\/p>\n
“(The win) was more than anything the positive feeling of being able to come to a Premier League environment and be ourselves.<\/p>\n
“That’s what we were looking for and I’m delighted we’ve been able to do that because to say we’ve been the better side against a very good Portsmouth side, I think it tells you a lot about the performance.<\/p>\n
“You can see we are getting better and that’s credit to everyone at Swansea City.<\/p>\n
“Portsmouth threw everything, they had nothing to lose, they had to chase the game and they’ve got a player who’s been moving around in world football for \u00a326m so you are going to expect them to get chances<\/p>\n
“But the way you defend, the way you make the decisions and the way you take the challenges, I couldn’t be prouder of the players, and that’s another clean sheet.<\/p>\n
