{"id":16247,"date":"2009-04-10T19:51:00","date_gmt":"2009-04-10T19:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.staging28.planetswans.co.uk\/?p=16247"},"modified":"2020-09-22T11:26:01","modified_gmt":"2020-09-22T11:26:01","slug":"butler-still-fumes-over-cardiff-city-decision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jackarmy.net\/wp67\/2009\/04\/10\/butler-still-fumes-over-cardiff-city-decision\/","title":{"rendered":"Butler Still Fumes Over Cardiff City Decision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Swansea City winger was sent off after the final whistle in Sunday&#39;s 2-2 derby draw &#8211; a result that left the Swans play off hopes hanging by a thread.<\/p>\n<p>But rather than calming down in the five days since the game, the feelings of anger are still there as Butler told the Evening Post &quot;Referees are human, ther are going to make mistakes.&nbsp; But if they are unsure of something they have to give the benefit of the doubt and let it go.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;There&#39;s only so much they can do and I think decisions in the box are something referees really need assistance with.&nbsp; How do you help them?<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It would take a panel of three referees watching&nbsp; a video of the game that would take 15 seconds or less to make a decision on a potential penalty.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Either that or you could have an assistant behind each goal so that they could identify whether someone has dived or if it was handball.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I&#39;m not saying it should happen for every game, but certainly for high profile games like cup finals and league games that have something huge riding on them.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I just think if referees had a little more help and more assistance in and around the goal it would make their lives alot easier.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It is an emotional game and it is hard to level it out through a game especially derby games like last Sunday.&nbsp; The smotions are running high and I was buzzing for Joe Allen after he scored his first goal in such a big game.&nbsp; THen a minute later that is turned on its head.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I was upset and said some things to the ref that I thought at the time I was justified in saying.&nbsp; I don&#39;t regret confronting the ref but my choice of words was probably poor a the time.&nbsp; How can you control what you say when the stakes are so high?<\/p>\n<p>&quot;You want to hear what the ref has to say but he won&#39;t give you anything.&nbsp; Even if I did have the right choice of words if the ref makes a mistake he doesn&#39;t have to answer back to the players.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Some referees are fantastic.&nbsp; They are professional and speak to you throughout the game.&nbsp; Some referees are arrogant, rude and blank you.&nbsp; They treat you like&nbsp;you aren&#39;t a person.&nbsp; All you are doing is asking for an answer.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It&#39;s those type of referees that are so hard to deal with.&nbsp; Football is massive &#8211; games are so important particularly for us with the position we are in.&nbsp; If a referee makes a wrong decision then there could be massive repercussions.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They don&#39;t realise that people suffer a lot from it.&nbsp; A team could go down because of a bad decision.&nbsp; Then the players could lose their contracts and go to lower clubs that means their families suffer.&quot;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Swansea City winger was sent off after the final whistle in Sunday&#39;s 2-2 derby draw &#8211; a result that left the Swans play off hopes hanging by a thread.
