The Swans Chairman is ready to start sifting through the number of applications already received by the club in response to Roberto's quick – and somewhat surprise – departure to Wigan.<\/p>\n
Although that deal has not yet been concluded, there is growing discontent amongst the support after Roberto's own comments about how much he loved the club and what it would take for him to leave.<\/p>\n
In particular focus is given to the comment "They kicked me out as a player and they will have to kick me out as a manger" to which Jenkins responded “He certainly did make those statements, but you must not forget he is a young man learning his way in the game.<\/p>\n
“Perhaps looking back, or in the future, he may be a bit more careful about how he says things.<\/p>\n
“But I’m sure he did say it, and mean it, from what his views were at the time.”<\/p>\n
Speaking in an interview with the Western Mail, the chairman continued “The club is greater than any man and I just want everybody to get fully behind whoever is in charge, but, most importantly, fully behind the club 100 per cent and keep us going forward.<\/p>\n
“Roberto wanted to take up the opportunity of testing himself against what the Premier League had to offer.<\/p>\n
“That’s what he based his decision on in the end. He’s a very ambitious man.<\/p>\n
“Sometimes when you take on ambitious managers, that type of thing does come.<\/p>\n
“Individuals like that are going to be eager to move on, eager to develop their career and sometimes that’s the nature of the beast.<\/p>\n
“We’ve got a great rapport that we’ve had not only for the last two-and-a-half years he’s been here as a manager, but also when he was here as a player,” said Jenkins.<\/p>\n
“When you get to these situations you’ve got to take into account the personal views of who you are dealing with, whether it is a player or manager, and you’ve got to deal with that accordingly.<\/p>\n
“You can be assured our rapport will be intact after this”<\/p>\n
But Jenkins accepted: “I’m bitterly disappointed he is going. I thought that after just missing out on the play-offs we would bring a few players in, adjust a little bit and really look forward to another promotion challenge.<\/p>\n
“I thought when he signed his new contract with us, he would be here a least three to five years and we could see where the club had gone over that period.”<\/p>\n
