{"id":16879,"date":"2009-11-09T07:54:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-09T07:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.staging28.planetswans.co.uk\/?p=16879"},"modified":"2020-11-09T07:16:38","modified_gmt":"2020-11-09T07:16:38","slug":"ash-takes-a-swipe-at-cardiff-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jackarmy.net\/wp67\/2009\/11\/09\/ash-takes-a-swipe-at-cardiff-city\/","title":{"rendered":"Ash Takes A Swipe At Cardiff City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Swansea City defender was clearly in a mood to take a swipe back after hearing the comments from Jay Bothroyd ahead of the game when he said Swansea were not the same team as last year.<\/p>\n<p>And the Welsh international was in the mood to knock Cardiff&#8217;s route one football when he told the Western Mail \u201cI don\u2019t know when they turned into Stoke City.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stoke have been much criticised in the past two years for their route one football under Tony Pulis and Ash was clearly thinking the Swans&#8217; visitors were turning into a similar side after the game at the Liberty.<\/p>\n<p>And on the subject of Bothroyd&#8217;s pre-match comments, Williams added \u201cWe believe we don\u2019t get the respect we deserve from every team \u2013 and Cardiff sum it up<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe they think they\u2019re better than us, and it riles us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery week it\u2019s identical \u2013 no one talks about us anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople think we\u2019re just a pretty passing team and if teams get at us they can win,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut maybe those watching this game will have realised that\u2019s not the case, because we showed we can also dig in when we have to.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSoon someone\u2019s going to have to start paying attention.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, this win will have gone a fair way to doing something about it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still doubt if people will be talking us up as play-off contenders, so we have to keep shoving it down their throats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen when we get up there, it\u2019s a fact, people can\u2019t argue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we\u2019ll keep going about our business and keep playing football the Swansea City way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think the whole match was the prettiest spectacle,\u201d said the 25-year-old centre-half.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we played OK, but I don\u2019t know when they turned into Stoke City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery throw-in, free-kick and even from the kick-off, they went route one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought they\u2019d have played a bit better football like they did last season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were missing the height of Garry Monk at the back, so maybe that was in their thinking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought they didn\u2019t have much else, so we just wanted to stand strong, which we did.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMonks is a massive part of the team,\u201d he said. \u201cTatey has played at centre-back loads of times, so that wasn\u2019t an issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut when we saw Monks limping before kick-off and he said he couldn\u2019t play, a few of us worked hard to make sure no-one dropped their heads.
