The Swansea City midfielder has had a contract offer on the table – according to reports – for several months with a deal rumoured to be around \u00a312,000 per week.<\/p>\n
But manager Paulo Sousa has revealed that he is yet to sign the deal and this has now cast doubt over Britton’s future at the club with rumours being around since last summer that he would like to move back nearer to London.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the Western Mail, Sousa said \u201cLeon was one of the players that, when I arrived in the summer, we tried to get an agreement with<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the end he was offered the best contract in the history of the club and he did not sign it. But, in my opinion, and I think people have started to see this already, it\u2019s important we always think about the squad. Nobody is more important than the squad or the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith that in mind, we will keep looking and working with him like everyone else to try and settle the team the best we can to prepare for our future.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen a player is ready to play, I don\u2019t make my decisions based on contracts,\u201d said Sousa. \u201cNobody has a different status with me, they are all the same.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf he deserves to play, he will play. I still want him to sign and, if I didn\u2019t want that, I wouldn\u2019t have asked the chairman to make this offer. I\u2019m still hopeful he will sign. He is a player that works hard, he has played more than 300 times for us, he knows our game and he is someone we believe in for the present and the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
