Chairman Huw Jenkins confirmed earlier today that the\u00a0midfielder, who was the longest current serving Swansea player,\u00a0has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.<\/span><\/p>\n

O’Leary has played just once in the last 18 months for Swansea – as a substitute in the 2-1 win at Histon in the FA Cup last January. <\/span><\/p>\n

He\u00a0signed professional terms\u00a015\u00a0years ago and helped the club\u00a0to three promotions, most recently to the Championship in 2007\/08, when\u00a0the Welshman\u00a0made 19 appearances.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 33 year old is believed to be currently on trial at League Two outfit Torquay United in a bid to earn a deal.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It’s going to be a strange feeling not going in to training every morning with the boys,” explained O’Leary. <\/span><\/p>\n

“The Swans have been a major part of my life for nearly two decades.<\/span><\/p>\n

“I had to think long and hard about finishing with Swansea, but it was a decision I made with the backing of my family. It means I am now free to try and get another club and start playing regularly again.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It’s been a long and interesting road since I first joined the club in 1992. It’s important for me to thank everyone who has helped me along the way, especially the fans, but there are far too many individuals to mention.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Hopefully I will be back at Swansea one day. I’ve got a huge desire to return as a coach, so we’ll have to wait and see what develops in the future.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Jenkins was quick to praise O’Leary’s contribution to the club:<\/span><\/p>\n

“He’s always been an honest and hard-working footballer who has been through everything with this club. <\/span><\/p>\n

“I think he’s seen it all over the years.<\/span><\/p>\n

“He’s been a part of Swansea City Football Club on a daily basis for a very long time, during which he has always conducted himself as a gentleman and true professional.<\/span><\/p>\n

“It goes without saying that we thank him for all his efforts and loyalty over the years and wish him and his family well for the future.”<\/span><\/p>\n
