The Swansea City full back earned his one year extension after making his 23rd appearance of the season meaning his stay at the Liberty will now extend to the summer of next year.<\/p>\n
Having been denied a move to Fulham at the end of the transfer window, Rangel now says he is fully focused on achieving his Premier League dream with the Swans.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am very happy to sign the extension,\u201d he told the Western Mail. \u201cIt was never a concern for me.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have always said that Swansea gave me my opportunity in British football and I am so grateful for it. Now I see the opportunity to reach the Premiership with Swansea, which has always been my aim.<\/p>\n
\u201cApart from a few days at the end of January, that has always been my main focus.<\/p>\n
\u201cTwo seasons ago I wouldn\u2019t have believed I would be in this position, but we have been in the play-offs for a while and really do have a good chance to get promoted.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe good thing at Swansea is that not many players have been in the Premiership so everyone is really hungry to get there. It would be a dream for everyone here and it\u2019s very exciting.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead of moving on and trying another club, the best thing in the world would be reaching the Premiership with Swansea. I think everyone is working hard towards that and I am very happy to be a part of it.<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore everything happened in January, I said I was looking forward to getting my extension. The Fulham thing is now forgotten and I was glad to sign.<\/p>\n
\u201cFortunately I have played the 23 games (to get the extra year). I am just happy to have it sorted.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe\u00a0team\u00a0is doing well, we are in a good position in the table and I\u2019m back in the starting XI again. That\u2019s important to me and I feel everything is going really well.<\/p>\n
\u201cI never thought about leaving Swansea, but, when the chance came, there was only one day to think about it and it was a difficult situation. Perhaps I shouldn\u2019t have spoken to the press about it, but everyone makes mistakes.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything is forgotten now anyway. I am 100 per cent happy here and looking forward to enjoying my football.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe contract is written in English legal terms which is quite difficult to understand,\u201d he explained. \u201cYou need lawyers for it. But, when I signed the new deal, I asked for three years. They gave me two with an option of one more which was what I wanted. So I am happy with what has happened.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I always knew that, if I played the 23 games, I would get the extra year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was never like I had the option to sign or not sign. It was automatic and I always knew that.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have to remember that, because of my injury, I didn\u2019t have any pre-season training,\u201d he said. \u201cI came straight back into games and it took a while to get my fitness back.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen, once I had it back, I played for a couple of months without stopping and the heel was a slight problem again.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had a couple of weeks rest in January, though, and I feel much better for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hoping to get back to his best for the business end of the season, he continued: \u201cI definitely don\u2019t think the speculation affected my performances.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously I have not had as good a season as my first two, but I am doing my best and giving 100 per cent for the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the most important thing for both the club and myself.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow I have a great chance to keep my place in the team and I\u2019m looking forward to playing as many games as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
