The Swansea City captasin will be forced to sit out Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace after picking up his 5th booking of the season in Tuesday’s defeat to Wigan in the Carling Cup.<\/p>\n
But he believes that the card – along with 2 more of his 5 yellows – was not deserved as he explained to the Western Mail \u201cThe lad was laughing on the floor after I was supposed to have fouled him<\/p>\n
\u201cI asked him why he dived and he said sorry and that he didn\u2019t mean to get me booked.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat does the referee want me to do? I didn\u2019t touch him or try to play the ball.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s disappointing. I was angry because I tried to avoid the booking.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes referees are not brave enough to give those decisions against Premier clubs.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not blaming the ref for the loss, but he seemed to want to give them a foul every two seconds.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut I guess that\u2019s what happens when a referee is in charge of a Premier League side against lower-league opposition. They don\u2019t want to offend the Premier League players.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been unlucky this season. Two out of the five are probably deserved but I\u2019ve been really unlucky with the others.<\/p>\n
\u201cThankfully it\u2019s only one game and the matches are coming so quickly it will be out of the way by Saturday and I will be back for the Cardiff game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Monk also believes that the Swans can be proud after their defeat which was watched by a hugely impressive travelling army of 4,500 supporters<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can hold our heads up high.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had great travelling support, it was just a shame we didn\u2019t get them the result they wanted.<\/p>\n
\u201cRoberto\u2019s line-up was very strong and that is credit to us.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought we started really well and the goal that was disallowed looked a bit debatable, you need to get those kind of breaks.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince the start of the season when we had a couple of away defeats we\u2019ve learnt from that and grown in confidence and we look very decent on the road.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe league is our main priority. We have to use this as motivation to really fight for those top spots.\u201d<\/p>\n
