It was reported at the weekend that the Swansea City defender was keen on a new deal at the Liberty Stadium and Rodgers has now stated that talks have started with the Wales international.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the Western Mail, Rodgers said “It’s only the early stages. <\/p>\n
“He has still got two years left on his current deal but he is one we are looking to secure.<\/p>\n
“We want to bring him up to speed in terms of his wages.<\/p>\n
“He is a player who has done remarkably well for this club over the past few seasons, playing consistently well.<\/p>\n
“He will certainly earn his money next year and we want him to be on a par with everyone else at the club.<\/p>\n
“Ash is a player who I have no doubt will step into the Premier League and do very well.<\/p>\n
