Brendan Rodgers was understandably delighted with Michel Vorm after his penalty save earned the Swans their first Premier League point<\/p>\n
Vorm’s second half save earned the Swans a point after Ashley Williams challenge on Jordi Gomez earned Wigan a penalty in their only period of domination.<\/p>\n
Vorm guessed right and palmed away Ben Watson’s penalty to the delight of the majority of the 19000 Liberty crowd who had watched the Swans come close on several occasions to their first Premier League goal.<\/p>\n
Speaking after the game, Rodgers said “You hear it the whole time and it’s right, a good goalkeeper will get you up to 10 points a season<\/p>\n
“People will see that we have a top goalkeeper.<\/p>\n
“We always had a small list of goalkeepers that would fit our style, but it was always about whether we could get him in.<\/p>\n
“He is a Dutch number two and I’m sure other clubs have looked at him.<\/p>\n
“Other English clubs may have believed he was too small, but for us he is perfect.<\/p>\n
“He can help control the game for us and he is a big personality.<\/p>\n
“What we had last season with Dorus de Vries was 11 outfield players when we had the ball.<\/p>\n
“For us it is more than shot-stopping.<\/p>\n
“Our goalkeepers need to understand the game and how we play because we go back to him to build and construct our game.<\/p>\n
“People will look at him and say he is not 6ft 4in, but he will make stops other goalkeepers of that size won’t because he is so fast.”<\/p>\n
