Brendan Rodgers declared his side ‘outstanding’ despite them throwing away a two goal lead at Wolves<\/p>\n
Rodgers said after the game\u00a0“We were outstanding today<\/p>\n
“I thought we controlled the game with and without the ball, but to lose it like we did is difficult to take.<\/p>\n
“But it’s out first point away from home and our performance was fantastic.<\/p>\n
“Like last week at Norwich, there were a lot of positives to take from today,” he said. “But great credit goes to the players because they gave everything today.”<\/p>\n
“We need to learn and learn quickly,” he added. “It was strange because we had never been in that position before this season where we were 2-0 up away from home.<\/p>\n
“For 80-odd minutes it was a perfect away performance, but it’s obviously disappointing after playing that well and not picking up all three points.<\/p>\n
“But With a bit more luck we could have had a few more.<\/p>\n
“What I do know is about players,” said Brendan. “I’ve known Danny for a long time and he scores in streaks but his touch and movement today was very good.”<\/p>\n
For the home side the result meant they stopped a run of five successive defeats, but boss Mick McCarthy admits his side had their fair share of luck.<\/p>\n
“It was a great point for us and I’m delighted,” he said. “But we were really, really lucky.<\/p>\n
“We’ve played a lot better than that in previous games and got nothing, but the players kept going and got a result for themselves and for the club.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
